Grant Township, Keweenaw County, Michigan, USA

Grant Township is located at the tip of Michigan’s beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula (Pronounced KEY-win-awe). It is Michigan’s Northernmost Township.

Includes the following communities: Copper Harbor, Lac La Belle, Betsy, Bete Grise, Delaware, Manitou Island, Wyoming, and part of Lake Medora.

The Grant Township Building: The Grant Township building houses the offices, community hall, post office and welcome center. There are also public restrooms available around the back of the building.

Donny Kilpela Memorial Park: The Park is landscaped but keeps the “natural look”.  It can be used for picnics or simply some down time. There are several events throughout the summer. The Park is a public space to be enjoyed by all visitors.

Copper Harbor School: A one room Kindergarten through 8th Grade schoolhouse.

Population 2000 Census: 172 – Most of the population resides in Copper Harbor and Lac La Belle with a scattering of residents throughout.

Highest point:  Mount Houghton at 1466 feet

Second highest point: Mount Bohemia at 1465 feet

Average yearly snow: 270 Inches 

Climate: Mild with little humidity. Summers boast days in the 70s and nights in the 50s. Winters hang between 15 & 23 d F. 

Geography: The north side of the peninsula is a dramatic, jagged, rocky shore. The south side has sandy beaches and sandstone outcroppings. 

Waterfalls: Manganese Falls-Copper Harbor, Haven Falls-Lac La Belle, and Montreal Falls. 

Scenic By-Ways: US-41 into Copper Harbor is a registered Michigan Scenic Heritage Route and a National Scenic By-Way. 

Major highways: US-41 (Copper Harbor to Miami, FL) & M-26
